The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in collaboration with key stakeholders in the Nigerian tertiary education sector, has officially approved 150 as the minimum admission benchmark for universities for the 2026/2027 academic session. This resolution was finalized during the 2026 annual policy meeting on admissions held in Abuja on Monday. This score, recognized as the National Minimum Tolerable UTME Score, serves as the regulatory floor below which no tertiary institution is permitted to admit candidates. Stakeholders emphasized that this benchmark is intended to maintain standard quality control while ensuring that the admission process remains competitive and transparent. Institutions are now expected to conduct their internal Post-UTME screening and admission exercises in strict adherence to this directive. Candidates are advised to monitor their preferred university's specific requirements, as individual institutions reserve the right to set higher cut-off marks based on their internal carrying capacity and departmental standards. The policy reflects a collaborative effort to streamline the admission process and ensure that students are adequately prepared for the rigorous academic requirements of higher education in Nigeria.
