JAMB Sets 150 Minimum Admission Benchmark for 2026/2027 Session

Following the 2026 annual policy meeting held in Abuja, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and key stakeholders in the education sector have officially established 150 as the National Minimum Tolerable UTME Score for universities. This benchmark serves as the minimum threshold for any candidate to be considered for admission into a degree-awarding institution for the 2026/2027 academic session.
It is important to note that this figure represents a baseline; individual universities maintain the authority to set higher institutional cut-off marks based on their internal standards and the volume of applications they receive. Candidates who fall below this threshold are strictly ineligible for admission into the university system. During the policy meeting, discussions also covered the need for institutions to streamline their post-UTME screening exercises to reduce the financial burden on parents and candidates. As the admission process transitions into the screening phase, institutions are expected to upload their specific cut-off requirements to the JAMB portal. Students are advised to confirm the specific requirements of their schools of choice, as the minimum benchmark of 150 does not automatically guarantee admission. The competitive nature of the Nigerian university system means that higher scores remain an advantage in the quest for limited slots in high-demand courses.
