NUC Bans New Admissions into Affiliated Degree Programs in Colleges of Education

"Under a new policy directive, the National Universities Commission and JAMB have declared that there will be no new degree admissions in affiliated COEs starting from the 2026/2027 session."

The National Universities Commission (NUC), in coordination with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has implemented a sweeping policy reform aimed at streamlining teacher education and degree awards in Nigeria. Under the newly ratified policy, the regulatory authorities have declared that there will be no fresh admissions into any university-affiliated degree programs run within Colleges of Education (COEs) starting from the 2026/2027 academic session.\n\nThe move is designed to ensure that degree-awarding standard requirements are strictly preserved within conventional university campuses while encouraging Colleges of Education to focus on their core mandate of producing highly qualified National Certificate in Education (NCE) educators. Existing students enrolled in these affiliated programs will be permitted to complete their studies, but no new UTME or Direct Entry registrations will be processed for affiliated college schemes.
