The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially communicated the results of the 2026 Policy Meeting regarding the minimum tolerable admission scores for all tertiary institutions. This move is aimed at creating a standardized benchmark across the Nigerian educational landscape, ensuring that all institutions adhere to a unified grading and admission philosophy. According to the official directive, universities must maintain a minimum score of 150 for admission consideration. Similarly, Colleges of Nursing are expected to adhere to a score of 140, while Polytechnics are set at a minimum of 100.
These scores represent the absolute floor for institutional admission. It is important to note that individual universities reserve the right to set higher departmental cut-off marks depending on the number of applicants for specific programs. For example, highly competitive courses like Medicine, Law, and Engineering may require significantly higher scores than the national minimum. Students are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the specific requirements of their chosen institutions as listed on the JAMB website.
In addition to the scores, the board has cautioned against the proliferation of illegal admission processes. All admissions must be routed through the JAMB portal to be valid. Students who bypass the official channel are not recognized as legitimate students by the board, which could lead to complications with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) registration in the future.
