Senate Approves Nine New Federal Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education
"The Nigerian Senate has passed bills to establish nine new federal higher institutions across the federation."
The Nigerian Senate has approved bills for the establishment of nine new federal higher educational institutions, comprising federal universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The legislative step was taken to address the massive demand for tertiary admission in the country, despite calls from some academic unions to prioritize the funding of existing institutions over establishing new ones. The newly approved bills will now be forwarded to the Presidency for executive assent. Proponents of the bills claim the new schools will bring affordable tertiary education closer to rural communities across diverse geopolitical zones.
