University of Abuja Matriculates 8,000 Students Amidst High Admission Pressure
"UNIABUJA has matriculated just 8,000 students for the 2025/2026 session despite receiving over 30,000 applications."
The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) held its matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic session on February 12, 2026, officially admitting over 8,000 new students. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Hakeem Fawehinmi disclosed that the institution faced significant pressure, with over 30,000 candidates applying for limited slots. The low admission rate was attributed to carrying capacity constraints and the university's commitment to maintaining academic standards. During the ceremony, the VC also announced new strategic partnerships with Galaxy Backbone to enhance ICT infrastructure and plans for health sciences expansion through a N4 billion funding boost. He warned the new intakes against cultism and other forms of indiscipline.
