UNILAG Releases Final 2025/2026 Merit Admission List on JAMB CAPS with Record-High Cut-offs
"University of Lagos sets a merit cut-off of 85.025 for Medicine, signaling intense competition for 2026 UTME candidates."
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has recently released its final merit admission list and cut-off marks for the 2025/2026 academic session, setting a high bar for the 2026 UTME hopefuls. Despite early delays caused by a Federal High Court order in late 2025, the university has successfully updated its portal on the JAMB Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). The merit cut-off for the most competitive course, Medicine and Surgery, was pegged at a staggering 85.025, followed by Nursing at 79.8 and Law at 77.375. This data provides a crucial roadmap for 2026 UTME candidates who are currently choosing their preferred institutions. The high scores required emphasize the need for an aggregate strategy that combines high UTME scores with excellent O'Level results and a strong performance in the Post-UTME screening. UNILAG’s adherence to the Catchment Area policy also remains a significant factor, with lower cut-offs for candidates from Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo states. Analysis of the 2026 admission climate suggests that candidates aiming for UNILAG must target a UTME score of at least 300 to remain competitive for top-tier courses. The university's shift towards a more digitized screening process has also reduced the instances of human error but increased the transparency of the merit system. For those who did not make the merit list, the Admission in Progress status on CAPS remains the focus for February 2026, as the university begins the supplementary and change-of-course rounds. This phase is critical for candidates who missed the primary cut-off but are willing to move to less competitive departments to secure a spot in the Akoka-based institution. The current trend shows that despite the high competition, UNILAG remains the top choice for many due to its urban location and perceived prestige, making the 2026 admission cycle one of the most contested in the school's history.
